An investment group has acquired Mercedes Benz Argentina, committing to maintain the production, marketing, and export of the Sprinter utility vehicle and explore new opportunities in the market. The group, led by Pablo Peralta and including the participation of Daniel Herrero and Alfonso Prat Gay, acquired the factory and operations of Mercedes Benz Argentina, which is withdrawing after 74 years in the country.

"We will maintain the production, marketing, and export of the Sprinter utility vehicle and we will also explore new avenues," said Herrero. The goal is to face the challenges of new mobility, while also seeking investments in electromobility. Once the purchase is finalized, Mercedes Benz Argentina will change its name to Prestige Autos.

Francesco Ciancia from Mercedes-Benz indicated that the transaction with the Open Car Group aims to ensure the continuity of operations, production, and employment in Argentina. The commitment includes maintaining the 1,800 existing jobs at the Virrey del Pino plant.

Daniel Herrero assured that the company will continue its activity and focus on sustainable mobility. As for production, it is initially estimated at 15,000 units, with a possible 15% expansion in the future. It is expected that there will be no layoffs and that the transition will be carried out gradually over a period of two months, with the start date planned between May 15 and July 15.

The new owners, backed by Peralta and Prat Gay, announced their commitment to work closely with employees and customers to maintain the continuity of the factory. The acquisition of Mercedes Benz Argentina by the Open Car Group signifies a new chapter in the history of the plant that seeks to adapt to the challenges of the automotive industry and advance in the development of sustainable mobility.
